Important Reminders

Dismissal Safety Reminder

For the safety of our students and families, please do not park on the corner of New Street and Hall Avenue at dismissal. The buses are unable to pass safely, and neither is a firetruck. As you are well aware, this could present a very dangerous situation for our neighbors and children.

Bus Reminder:

Please be advised that it is illegal and dangerous to pass school buses when they have their red lights flashing.

Attendance Rules:

A Parent's Guide to Curriculum

No Candy in School

Parents, please remember that students are not permitted to bring candy to school. The details of our practices at Waverly School are outlined on page 9 of the Family Handbook. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call Mari Doyle at 914-793-6130, ext. 5502.

No Cars in the Bus Circle

Unfortunately, a number of parents have been observed entering the bus circle before 9:00 AM and while students are unloading from busses. In addition, some cars have passed school buses while their lights were blinking which is illegal and a moving violation. For the safety of our students, please be sure to use the Hall Avenue entrance if you are dropping off your child before 9:00 AM. If you arrive after 9:00 AM, you will need to find alternate parking and escort your child into the school. The details of our practices at Waverly School are outlined on page 5 of the Family Handbook. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call Mari Doyle at 914-793-6130, ext. 5502. Thank you, in advance for your cooperation.

Parent Ads can be purchased for any Waverly student and are a lovely way to encourage or congratulate your child on a great year. MemoryBook provides Template Ads pre-designed for quick creation or Custom Ads which allow full personalization. In either case, you may upload photos to accompany your text. Multiple ads may be purchased in case siblings or grandparents wish to make an additional dedication. Or, if you are a business owner, please take the opportunity to help promote your business to our Waverly families. Please note that the Parent Ad fee is in addition to yearbook base price and ads must be completed by March 16 (prior to the yearbook deadline of April 19).

    HI,
This sounds very reasonable. I did have one question. If a parent knows of a business owner who wants to place an ad, how will that ad be created?

Also, since there you posted the different due dates in red and purple on the bottom of the email, I think I might change the color to match on the top as well.
I would also suggest sending a follow-up blast the following week with wording similar to:

    UPCOMING DEADLINES FOR YEARBOOKS:
    Ads- March 16th
    Orders- April 19th
    And then the links.

FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE AT WAVERLY:
by Jennifer Batz - Wednesday, December 13, 2017, 11:45 AM

    Dear Parents,

There have been several cases of head lice reported in both kindergarten and first grade. This is

not uncommon for this age group in kindergarten and first grade.

The two biggest myths about head lice are:

    1.     Head lice fly or jump from head to head … False… They crawl (not fly or jump); no one is immune to head lice; anyone who is in close contact (head to head), to someone who already has the parasite is at risk.

    2.     Only dirty people contact head lice … False… Personal hygiene or cleanliness in the home have nothing to do with getting head lice. They prefer clean hair so they can hang on and move around freely. They are not fond of hair spray, gels and other hair products.

    Anyone can get head lice!

Steps to prevent the spread of head lice:

    1.     Avoid head-to-head (hair-to-hair) contact during play and other activities at home, school, etc. (It is recommended to keep girl’s hair braided or in a ponytail and boy’s hair short) Using hair products that make the hair stiff may also help.

    2.     Check hair each night.

    3.     Do not share clothing such as hats, scarves, sports uniforms and headgear, hair ribbons, etc.

    4.     Do not share combs, brushes, linens or towels.

    5.     At school, if a student is identified with nits/lice, coats in that classroom are put into plastic bags and sealed and the custodial dept. is notified. Any child who is identified to have head lice or nits is sent home. Every student from that class is then checked and rechecked every 2 to 3 days.

If you have any questions, or if your child is scratching his/her head call Mrs. Kaessler in the morning. She’ll give you an appointment to check your child’s head.

What to do if your child has head lice:

    1.     Speak to your pediatrician about the best products and services available.

    2.     Make sure to follow all instructions on products.

    3.     Check all members of the family.

    4.     Please contact the school nurse at 793-6130 Ext. 5509.

    5.     Remove all nits.

    6.     Wash clothes, bed linens and towels in hot water. Bag stuffed animals.

    7.     Soak combs, brushes, etc. in hot water.

    8.     Vacuum everywhere including car seats, rugs and sofas (anyplace that has contact with your child’s head).

In order to return to school, a parent must bring the child to the nurse’s office at 8:30 a.m. to be cleared before the child is allowed to return to their classroom. We have a no nit policy.
