Recent news headlines make us all aware of the tragic loss of young lives due to drug abuse. It is likely that we all know someone touched by this plague that is sweeping our country, and has even been evident in our own community.
What can you do to support the Eastchester School District Wellness and Drug Abuse Prevention Initiative?
Please save the date for a very important event to be held on Monday, November 28 at 7pm in the High School auditorium. The keynote speaker is former NBA Boston Celtics player Chris Herren, the author of Basketball Junkie, who will tell his story of how alcohol, cocaine, painkillers and heroin derailed his personal and professional life.
Then, a week later, on December 5, at 7pm, join us to hear Dr. Michael Nerney, a world-wide renowned speaker, who will talk about the changes that occur in the brain between the ages of 12 and 24 and help us understand the connections between the adolescent brain and the allure of thrill-seeking, drug and alcohol abuse, sexuality and other high-risk behaviors.
We urge all parents and guardians to attend these presentations and those planned for the coming year.
